As expected, the opening day of free agency brought plenty of action from around the league. Here are today’s minor signings from Western Conference teams:
- The Los Angeles Kings have signed forward Lane Pederson to a two-year, $1.75MM contract. Pederson spent last season with the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms, where he racked up 48 points in 63 games. He has played in 76 NHL games through his career, scoring 11 points and a minus-19. Los Angeles also signed forward Jan Jenik to a one-year, two-way contract worth $850K at the NHL level. Jenik split last season between 41 games with the Belleville Senators and two games with the Ontario Reign. He combined for 17 points and 29 penalty minutes. He has played in 24 career NHL games, with six points and 20 penalty minutes. PuckPedia confirmed the Kings have also signed defenseman Scott Perunovich, who scored nine goals and 49 points in 64 games for the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners last season.
- The Calgary Flames announced four two-way contracts. Forward Ben Jones and defensemen Jake Livingstone and Matt Benning have each signed contracts worth $850K, while defenseman Andreas Englund signed a deal worth $900K. Jones, Livingstone, and Benning will bring two-way impact to the Calgary Wranglers while Englund steps in as the team’s next enforcer.
- Forwards Arttu Hyry and Artem Shlaine, as well as goaltender Brandon Halverson, have signed new deals with the Dallas Stars. Hyry has inked a two-year, $1.8MM contract while both Shlaine and Halverson signed one-year, two-way deals. Hyry split his season between 19 points in 27 AHL games and five points in 20 NHL games. With only 25 games at the top flight in his career, a new deal will offer the chance to better earn a full-time, NHL role. Shlaine scored 38 points, split evenly, in 67 games with the AHL’s Texas Stars. Halverson recorded 24 wins and a .905 save percentage in 43 games with the Syracuse Crunch.
- Depth defenseman Jack Ahcan has signed a two-year, two-way deal with the Nashville Predators per Alex Daugherty of the Tennessean. Ahcan finished second in AHL defenseman scoring last season with 50 points in 61 games. He will represent a nice bit of depth scoring for the Predators, and another Colorado Avalanche transplant following Chris MacFarland’s move from Colorado’s GM role to Nashville’s.
